The state remained a US territory until 11 May 1858, when it was finally granted statehood and admitted to Union as 32nd US state.
The state aligned with the Union during the “American Civil War” and approx. 22,000 Minnesotans served in the military. Afterward, development was started and the state was industrialized, especially after the World War 2.
Minnesota shares its borders with Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba towards the North, North Dakota and South Dakota towards the West, Iowa towards the South, Wisconsin towards the East, while it shares water boundary with Michigan.
