Type of Houses in Guatemala
Guatemala is one of the poorest countries in the world with high crime rates and unemployment.
The living conditions of the people are below the average and there are no proper arrangements for people to have an adequate home or living.
The majority of the people live in small and temporary houses made of scrap or straw. Several foreign countries and originations have regularly helped the people of the country to have proper houses.
Let’s have a look at some of the common types of houses in Guatemala.
1. Ordinary Houses of Guatemala
Due to lack of funds and inadequate facilities, the majority of the people living in the country have improper or ordinary houses.
These houses or either built of tin, cornstalks, or other scrapped materials.
The roof is also covered with similar materials and the condition becomes miserable when there is wind or rain. We can imagine how difficult the people are living there and what there will be their life.
2. Brick or Block Houses
These are small but firm houses that are mostly built by foreign funds or NGOs. Rather than using ordinary materials, proper elements like bricks, blocks along cement are used.
The living condition in these houses is much better than those ordinary houses.
3. Flat type of Houses in Guatemala
Flats are also present in some parts of the country. You can easily find the flat of your choice and design easily. But these are meant for the few percent of the local population as they can afford these.
4. Proper and Luxurious Houses
These types of houses are found rarely in the country as the majority of the population live below the poverty line. There are some large bungalows or mansions but there are barely seen as the people can’t afford such luxuries.
Guatemala Information:
Guatemala, officially the “Republic of Guatemala” is a sovereign country located in the Central American region. The country due to its enormous population is termed as one of the most populous countries in Central America.
The bordering countries of Guatemala include Honduras towards the East, El Salvador towards the Southeast, Mexico towards the North and West; and Belize towards the Northeast. The Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea are located towards the Southwest and East respectively.
The country is famous for its ancient sites (remains of Maya Civilization), volcanoes, rainforests, beaches, culture, coffee fields, colonial era (Spanish) buildings, beautiful countryside and much more. Some of the present problems of Guatemala include poverty, high-crime rate, illiteracy, drugs and low human development.
Archeological evidence found in the region support the fact that the country was inhabited by the humans since 12,000 BC. These people were hunter-gatherers and were totally dependent on hunting roaming all over the region.
As the time passed, farming and cattle techniques were introduced and permanent settlements started. “Corn” was one of the important corps of these people. Later, during the classical period, the area was one of the regions where the famous “Maya Civilization” flourished.
This is the reason the remains of this civilization are found all over Guatemala. The region was first discovered by the Spanish in 1519 and a number of expeditions were sent deep inside the region. Also, during this period the local population was killed brutally by the invaders and resulted in the decline of the local people.
Spanish maintained a permanent presence in the region and built towns, churches, educational and welfare centers and a number of other administrative buildings. Today some of these buildings are reserved as “World Heritage Sites” and are a point of interest of tourists.
Guatemala got and its neighboring countries declared its independence together in 1821. Sadly, this was not the ending and until the end of the 20th century, the country was hit by a number of military coups, successive rules of dictators, civil wars, and massacres.
The United States also actively interfered in the country’s affairs by supporting coups and rebel forces. From 1960 to 1996 the country was engaged in the Civil war that led to the death of millions of people, loss of infrastructure and refugee crisis. The United Nations intervened and managed a ceasefire.
The almost entire terrain of Guatemala is marked by mountain ranges, hill and forest except for the coastal areas. Additional features include mangroves, swamps, rivers, lakes and National parks. The climate of the country varies with altitude and coastal areas have a warm and humid climate which changes as we move towards the heights.
Due to its location between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the country is exposed to hurricanes, earthquakes which often result in mudslides. Likewise, the ecosystem of the Guatemala and its biodiversity is considered as one of the best in the world. Approx. 1246 species are found in the country and some of which are endangered.
The country has one of the best-performing economies in the Central American Region but due to a number of social and welfare issues, the country is still one of the poorest countries in the region. Services, agriculture, and industries are the most dominating sectors of the economy.
The services sector is the largest contributor towards the economy as a number of tourists visit country due to archeological remains, colonial-era buildings, beaches, biodiversity, forests, and culture. Also due to abundant land mass and rich soil agriculture sector is also flourishing in the country and exports number of agriculture products including coffee, bananas, sugarcane, and cardamom.
Guatemala is a multi-ethnic country with people of different ethical background inhabits the country. Some of the common ethical groups include mestizo, indigenous peoples, K'iche, Kaqchikel, Mam, Q'eqchi', other Maya and non-Maya indigenous.
Spanish is the official and most widely spoken language of the country. The Spanish were introduced in the area by the Spaniards during the period of their conquest. Today, it is spoken by 93% of the total population.
Christianity continues to be the largest religion of the country and was similarly introduced by the Spanish in their colonial period. A number of churches can also be found of that era. Also, a large group of non-religious people is also found in the country that makes up around 12%-16% of the total population. Due to immigration from different parts of the world, some minority religions like Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism are also present in the country.

Keep up the good work Sureshji and wish you success and happiness!" - Megha - Virginia - USA
I have consulted Suresh Garu during December 2014 during the process of buying a house in Texas, USA. I have occupied the house for one year now, and feel like dropping a review regarding my experience during the entire process. I am very much satisfied with the kind of service I received from him. He is very knowledgeable and I was often stunned by his detailed analysis during the course of my interaction with him. He was very much accessible over phone (perhaps more than 10 times for one house plan!) and the price is very much reasonable especially compared with the cost of the house. I noticed his burning desire to help me in making informed decisions on certain things. I have seen some people pretending to know this subject and misguiding those who come for help by saying only what we want to hear. SubhaVaastu is definitely not that one. Finally, I am strong believer of leaving certain things to experts in those subjects. I have been in US for more than 13 years and have seen people doing their own corrections (by reading website articles) trying to save few dollars. Please don’t do that. You would end up in causing more damage. I highly recommend you to engage SubhaVaastu in your next project - Satish - Dallas - TX - USA

Rajesh: Chintu, what would you do if you accidentally stepped on an elderly man's foot?
Chintu: I’d apologize, Dad.
