Cameroon, officially the “Republic of Cameroon” is an independent country In Central Africa and is bordered towards Republic of Congo towards the South direction, and Nigeria towards the West direction, Chad towards the Northeast direction, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon towards the South; and the Central African Republic towards the East direction.

The country, unlike its other neighbors, possesses high political and social stability, better opportunities, developing infrastructure and growing economy. The area of modern Cameroon is inhabited since the Neolithic age. One of the known people that inhabited the area were “Baka”.

As World War 2 ended, the colonial rule all over the world was also ending and the struggle for independence also started in Cameroon. In 1960, French Cameroon got its independent followed by British Cameroon and were unified.

Since then the country is on track towards prosperity and modernization and has faced much fewer issues as compared to other nations which faced military coups, uprisings, civil and political unrests and poverty.

Cameroon has diverse geographical and physical features that include beaches, rivers, deserts, swamps, rainforests, mountains, and savannas.

Tourists and visitors describe Cameroon as “Africa in miniature” because it has the majority of African geographical and traditional features. “Mount Cameroon” is the highest point of the country and is an active volcano.

The country was one of the flourishing countries in the African continent due to its exports like cocoa, coffee, petroleum, and cotton but in 1980’s the price for its export products felt and the country remained in deficit for a long period but due to a large number of oil reserves and strong agricultural background, the country’s economy was saved from further deficit.

Around 70% of the country’s workforce is employed by the agricultural sector and is one of the most dependent sectors of the country. Other sectors include petroleum export, light industries, food processing, limber, etc.

Cameroon is regarded as one of the most diverse countries in terms of languages and there are over 250 languages spoken by people of different ethical backgrounds.

The official languages of the country are English and French. As the country was occupied by both French and the British this is the reason they till pose some effects. Although the country offers religious freedom to every individual, Christianity is the most followed religion in the country and afterward, Islam stands as the next popular religion.
