The apparent stagnation brought a sense of sorrow, observing the lack of facilities that are commonplace in other parts of India.

The capital of Nagaland is Kohima city, and the largest city of this Nagaland state is Dimapur city. It is one of the smallest states in India having an area of 16,579 square kilometers (6,401 sq mi). The population of the state is 1,980,602 as per the 2011 Indian Census.

Each district is headed by a district magistrate or a deputy commissioner. Deputy Commissioner belongs to Indian Administrative Service and is directly appointed by the Central Government.

The constitutional head of state is the Governor, who is the representative of the President of India. The Legislative Assembly of Nagaland (Vidhan Sabha) is the real executive and legislative body of the state.

The 60-member Vidhan Sabha – all elected members of the legislature – forms the government executive and is led by the Chief Minister. Unlike most states in India, Nagaland has been granted a great degree of state autonomy, as well as special powers and autonomy for Naga tribes to conduct their own affairs.

The population of the state of Nagaland is nearly two million people. Dimapur is the most populous district of Nagaland having 379,769 people. Naga people form the majority of the population.

Their population is 1.8 million. In 1967, the Nagaland Assembly proclaimed English as the official language of Nagaland and it is the medium for education in Nagaland. Other than English, Nagamese is widely spoken in the state. The literacy rate in the state is 80%.

Agriculture is the mainstay of Nagaland. Nearly 70% of the total population of the state is engaged in farming activities. Terrace and Jhum cultivation are the two methods by which crops are grown in the state of Nagaland.
