Turkey, authentically the “Republic of Turkey” is a sovereign nation located in Western Asia, having a small portion on Easternmost Europe. The country has a unique beauty and cultural heritage from ancient to modern era.

The country is famous for its beautiful cities, unique architect including the “Blue Mosque” and “Hagia Sophia”, forts, Ottoman Palaces, Ancient Remains and Steppes. Bordering countries of Turkey include Iraq and Syria towards the South, Bulgaria, and Greece towards the Northwest, Iran, Armenia, and Azerbaijan towards the East, and Georgia towards the Northeast.

The country came into being in 1923 and developed much in terms of industrialization, technology, and human development. Furthermore, the country is a member of the United Nations (UN), NATO, European Union, the IMF and the World Bank.

The regions of modern Türkiye are one of the oldest in the history to be settled by the humans. Also, due to its location on the borders of Europe and Asia, the region was influenced by both, European and Asian Empires and people. It is estimated that the people have inhabited the region since the Neolithic period. The evidence found in the area dates back to approx. 40,000 years.

Some of the earliest known people of the area were the “Hittites”, “Hurrians”, “Hattians”, “Assyrians”, and “Cimmerians”. In Antiquity period, the region remained under the Greeks for a brief period of time. Several remains of the Greeks can still be found in Turkey e.g. “theatre of Halicarnassus”, “The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus”, etc.

Later, when Greek power declined, the region fell towards the Persian “Achaemenid Empire”. The Persians later got defeated by “Alexander the Great” and the area remain under his empire till his death. Afterward, Roman Empire was overwhelming the region and soon became the part of Roman Empire which later turned into the “Holy Roman Empire”.

During the middle ages, the first Christian community was born in the region of modern Türkiye which was a base for the Christian kingdom. After the acceptance of Christianity by the Romans and the division of the Roman Empire, Eastern Roman Empire ruled modern-day Turkey and some of their remains and architect (e.g. Hagia Sophia) can still be seen.

Also, this empire had a great Christian significance. In the 14th century, Mongol armies were dominating and destroying the region in Eastern Turkey. To tackle the situation and defend themselves against the Mongols, the local tribes allied to create an Army to fight against the Mongols. This army later became the Ottoman army which defeated the Byzantine Empire (East Roman Empire) and captured the Constantinople now Istanbul.

This was the beginning of the Muslim empire in the region and the Ottoman Empire gradually became one of the largest and most powerful empires on Earth dominating much of North Africa, Middle East, some parts of Asia and Europe.

Some of the most inspiring and astonishing artwork, architect and construction were done by them in Turkey which still amazes the visitors. The empire ruled the region till the 20the century and was greatly admired by the Muslims all over the world. The empire was also inactive conflicts with Russia and several other European powers.

By the 19th century, the power of the Empire started to decline and started losing territories at the hands of British. Also, the empire gained many losses in World War 1, which were never recovered. The situation got worse when British and its Allies landed on the Turkish mainland and a long battle was fought inflicting losses on both sides. Although the landing failed, the Empire was weak and represented itself towards the British.

This was unacceptable by the young Turks and soon revolution was started which resulted in the creation of Modern Türkiye under the leadership of “Mustafa Kamal”. Although he abolished Muslim culture and rules, the foundation he laid and the policies made by him led Turkey to one of the most powerful and developed countries in the world.

The geography of Turkey features countless features including beautiful beaches, Mountains, valleys, and hills. Also, the biodiversity, ecology, and environment are well protected.
